Feature: Artist, Poet, & Dancer Tillan Edwards

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

Tillan Edwards (he/they) is a queer and trans artist, poet, and dancer from NYC. He’s loved dancing and making art ever since he was a child. Tillan began his work primarily as a dancer, and although they still share their dancing on social media from time to time, he’s currently focusing on creating written and visual art and planning to support himself through his artistic endeavors.

Much of their art and poetry is centered around queerness, witchcraft, spirituality, and all things spooky. His poetry especially is heavily inspired by his trans experience.

When asked about what their art means to them, Tillan shares the following:

"My art is an escape for me, first and foremost. It gets me out of my head. My drawings are often manifestations of a magical world I wish I lived in, while my poems are a direct extension of myself and my thoughts."

"I often find expressing myself vocally to be difficult, so I love how art allows me to express myself through so many creative mediums from dance to poetry, even mixed media and multimedia art!"

"More importantly, I want people to feel seen, inspired, and empowered through my art. Each piece I share is sort of like an offering to my community. My hope is that I can make people feel less alone in what they’re going through..while also having fun!"

"I want to bring people together. I want to support and comfort them through the difficult times and assure them that it’s more than okay to be who they are. I want to encourage them to embrace every part of themselves, no matter how weird or different they may feel."
