Feature: Writer & Poet Matthew Dawkins
Updated: Sep 2, 2021
Having amassed over 300,000 reads on his online-published books, Matthew Dawkins prides himself on crafting unique prose and poetry that interrogate the modern world.
With a hyper-focal lens on culture, adolescence, and the ever-changing social and political landscape of the 21st century, Matthew attempts to offer new explorations of the world around us.
On his blog, Matthew tackles topical issues surrounding culture, race, creative writing and academia as well as provides a deeper sense of his character and lifestyle as a young, black creator today.

On what his writing means to him, Matthew shares,
"Writing, I think, is my most clear and precise avenue for sharing ideas. In that way, writing for me is as necessary as speaking. It’s the form of communication where I feel the most at home and understood. Fictional writing, I think goes a step further. I am allowed to use the literary devices and storytelling that have entrapped my imagination and creativity since I was a child to create people and societies- to say what I mean with a little more flair. Writing to me is more than expression of self and ideas. It is an extension of me."
